LeBron James' Unbelievable 18-Year Scoring Streak Ends | NBA Highlights (2026)

LeBron James' incredible scoring streak, a testament to his dominance, has come to an end after an astounding 18 years. But the story isn't about points; it's about priorities.

On a Thursday night in Toronto, the basketball world watched as LeBron James made a decision that transcended statistics. His legendary streak of 1,297 consecutive regular-season games with at least 10 points came to a close. But instead of chasing personal glory, James chose to set up Rui Hachimura for the game-winning shot, securing a victory for the Los Angeles Lakers.

This decision wasn't just a moment; it was a reflection of James' career-long philosophy. He finished the game with a modest eight points, yet his focus remained unwavering: winning. "None," James said when asked if he had any regrets. "We won."

To put this streak in perspective, it began on January 6, 2007, and spanned nearly two decades. It's a record that dwarfs all others in NBA history. Consider this: Michael Jordan had a streak of 866 games, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reached 787, and Karl Malone achieved 575. James' accomplishment stands alone.

James knew that Hachimura's shot would end the streak. But, in that moment, he recognized the best chance of winning. And he didn't hesitate to make the pass.

"Just playing the game the right way. You always make the right play," James explained. "That’s just been my M.O. That’s how I was taught the game. I’ve done that my whole career."

James re-entered the game with 5:23 remaining, with the outcome and his streak hanging in the balance. He had only six points on 3-of-15 shooting. He scored to tie the game with 1:46 left and missed a shot that would have given him double digits. He could have taken another shot, but he chose to pass. Lakers coach JJ Redick noted, "LeBron is acutely aware of how many points he has at that point. He did it like he’s done so many times. … The basketball gods, if you do it the right way, they tend to reward you."

The last time James scored fewer than 10 points in a regular-season game was on January 5, 2007. The very next night, he scored 19 points, and the streak continued. The respect from his peers is clear. "You tip your hat to a guy who just cares about winning and making the right play," said Austin Reaves.

It's important to note that James' streak did face challenges. He was held under 10 points in the playoffs twice during the regular-season streak. Counting playoffs, Jordan still holds the longest streak of double-digit scoring games at 1,045.

Looking ahead, it's hard to imagine anyone catching James' regular-season record anytime soon. Kevin Durant currently has the longest active streak at 267 games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is next in line with 170 consecutive double-digit games. If Gilgeous-Alexander maintains his streak for another 14 years, he could potentially break the record.

"He’s such an unselfish player," said Lakers center Jake LaRavia. "He’s just playing the game of basketball. He had the opportunity but because of the player he is and just who he is as a person, he made the unselfish play, passed it to Rui and we won the game."

But here's where it gets controversial: James was often well past the 10-point mark before the fourth quarter. He had reached double figures through three quarters 1,266 times during the streak. However, in the week leading up to the end of the streak, he had struggled, scoring only nine points through three quarters against Dallas and six against Phoenix. He managed to extend the streak that night, but the next game, it was over.

James' reaction? Celebration. "I always just make the right play. That’s automatic, win, lose or draw," he said. "You make the right play, the game gods are always giving back to me."

He acknowledged that he's still finding his rhythm after missing the preseason and several regular-season games due to injury. He also reflected on the criticism he's faced for passing the ball in critical moments. "I remember everything that’s been negatively said about me and my game throughout my career," James said. "And that aspect has been one of the most foolish things I’ve ever heard as far as making the right pass, making the right play. We are in the business of winning basketball games and my whole life I’ve just played the game that way. I’ve taught the game that way. I’ve won at every single level I’ve played at by playing the game that way."

And this is the part most people miss: James' willingness to sacrifice personal achievements for team success is what truly defines his legacy. What do you think about James' decision? Do you agree with his priorities, or do you believe he should have prioritized extending the streak? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
