Nova Scotia Health is bringing their mobile primary care clinics to your community, offering much-needed services to address a range of health concerns. Here's everything you need to know about these upcoming dates and what to expect.
Dartmouth:
- Dartmouth South Primary Care Clinic
- 380 Portland Street, Dartmouth
- Dates: Saturday, December 13th and Sunday, December 14th
- Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days
Lower Sackville:
- Cobequid Community Health Centre
- 40 Freer Lane, Lower Sackville
- Dates: Saturday, December 13th and Sunday, December 14th
- Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days
Please note that the last appointment on both days will be at 3:45 p.m., with the clinics closing promptly at 4 p.m. These clinics operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan your visit accordingly.
These drop-in clinics provide a temporary solution for those with mild to moderate health issues. Here's how it works: you'll be asked about your reason for visiting, and if the clinic can help, you'll be screened for acute viral respiratory infections and given an approximate appointment time.
But here's where it gets controversial... While this clinic is a great resource, it's important to remember that it's not a replacement for your regular primary care provider. If you have a doctor or nurse practitioner you usually see, it's best to call their office first to check for same-day appointments. However, if you're unable to see your regular provider or don't have one, this mobile clinic is an excellent alternative.
The clinic operates using a team approach, with nurse practitioners and family physicians providing care. Make sure to have your health card and a list of medications ready upon arrival to streamline the process.
And this is the part most people miss... The mobile primary care clinic is specifically designed to address non-urgent, low-acuity health issues. It's not an emergency service, so if you're experiencing a medical emergency, please visit your nearest emergency department or call 911.
Here's a list of the types of concerns that can be addressed at the mobile clinic:
- Prescription refills or renewals (except for controlled substances)
- Minor respiratory symptoms
- Sore throat
- Earaches
- Fever
- Headache
- Rashes
- Minor gastrointestinal issues (vomiting and diarrhea)
- Cough, flu, or cold symptoms
- Urinary tract infections
- Muscle pain
Please note that lab or diagnostic imaging requisitions are not part of the mobile service.
So, what happens if you have a COVID-19 symptom? Get tested immediately! Early detection is crucial when it comes to accessing COVID-19 medication. If you book a PCR test or have a positive rapid test, make sure to complete the Report and Support form.
