The Bishop of ALMERIA, Antonio Gomez Cantero, has appointed a trio of experts to help bring the diocese out of the red.
The Church of Almeria currently has debts of 29 million euros and Xavier Pomes, David Martin Casero and Antonio Jesus Gil Marquez intend to create an economic sustainability plan for the diocese.
Xavier Pomes, a former special adviser to the regional government of Catalonia in the 1990s and early 2000s, has been working with the diocese in recent months, liaising with Deloitte which is carrying out the audit.
David Martin Casero, director of purchases for the Spanish Episcopal Conference, was previously comptroller at the Pontifical University of Salamanca and a member of the board of directors of the COPE radio station – which has close ties to the Church – before his post. current.
In January 2022, Martin Casero also designed a sustainability plan that allowed the Church of Zamora “to face the future in a sustainable way”.
Antonio Jesus Gil Marquez is a Cordoba businessman with vehicle dealerships who has strong ties to the Church.
In addition to creating a viability plan, the trio will also “contribute to technical proposals” while “promoting and monitoring” operations.
