! Murcia today – Erte’s pandemic leave programs in Spain extend until September 30
Government intends to return to normal working conditions this fall
A last-minute deal has been reached between the Spanish government, unions and business representatives to extend the ERTE leave programs that have been in place since the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, extending the validity of the situation from temporary paid dismissal from the end of May until the 30e September.
About 558,000 people in this country are still affected by ERTE programs, receiving part of their wages without working, the companies in which they are employed being forced to operate at lower than normal levels due to the pandemic. At the same time, employers’ social security contributions are being cut to allow employees to stay enrolled, helping to contain the rise in unemployment caused by the coronavirus since the start of last year.
The intention, according to José Luis Escrivá, the Minister of Social Security, is for this to be the last extension of the ERTE program and for the situation to return to “normal” in the fall of 2021, but in the meantime the objective is to provide every possible incentive for companies to retain the staff they employed before the pandemic outbreak.
Among the conditions agreed as part of the extension of the ERTE schemes is the provision that vulnerable companies with less than 50 employees will pay only 5 percent of the standard social security contributions for the workers they withdraw from the scheme. ERTE. For those who remain in the scheme, contributions are set at 15 percent in June, July and August and 30 percent in September.
Those with more than 50 employees will pay 35 percent until the end of August and 40 percent in September.
At the same time, the list of “vulnerable” sectors has been modified: to this category are added companies involved in clothing and accessories, the trade in tea, coffee, cocoa and spices, and photography. , while those removed from the list are those concerned with graphic design, photographic and optical equipment, sale of computers, other computer products and special transport companies.
